– i labiali devono corrispondere
A tough but very satisfying job.
An adaptation of a musical film is not a simple translation. And as a “dubbing,” it presents additional challenges compared to a talking picture. It involves creating a new artistic endeavor.
In fact, the adaptation requires:
– respecting the meaning of each individual phrase
– the musicality of the piece must sound natural
– the number of syllables must be identical from phrase to phrase
– the lip movements must match
The adaptation was carried out by the author of the opera’s libretto, Gianni Caminiti, who enlisted the help of two consultants: Martina Lucarelli, in the initial rough drafting phase, and Ariana Antonelli (a native American speaker) for the finishing touches.
Ombra’s voice was once again entrusted to Gianfranco Zorzi, and the film’s mix, in the 5.1 (theater) and stereo (home and TV) versions, was by Giorgio Vita Levi of FonoVideo Audio-Post, a co-production of the film.
A Rock Opera
SYNOPSIS
Icarus is a dreamer; since he was a child, he has wanted to become a poet. Despite a childhood marked by constant domestic violence and tragic events, he keeps his dreams alive thanks to Shadow, the mysterious figure who has accompanied him since the cradle. Everything changes when he falls in love with a woman, Selene, and chases Shadow away. Ordinary life swallows him up. Shadow will remain on the sidelines, waiting for a long time to resurface. When Shadow reappears and Icarus's memories resurface, the Poet will fall into an uncontrolled vortex of dramatic events.
THE IDEA OF THE ROCK OPERA
The desire to visualize founder Gianni's rock opera led to the decision to create this production company. In fact, this genre isn't produced in Italy, where only big international names rarely appear. The decision to self-produce a rock opera with FonoVideo Audio-Post stemmed from the need to minimize artistic compromises, including the screenplay and musical arrangement. Unlike usual practices, the starting point was the complete screenplay, rather than simply submitting the story to production companies.

A Rock Movie Opera
Movie Soundtrack
I first saw Jesus Christ Superstar when I was 9, in a movie theater that’s now a gym. I thought it was strange and wonderful. I was especially struck by the orchestral music, though I only understood the strangest pieces later.
From that first encounter, the dream of writing a rock opera and turning it into a film was born.
